MobileIron (now called Ivanti)

MobileIron/Ivanti is a mobile device manager (MDM). You can install it on smartphones and tablets to make it easier to access UVA Health resources (primarily @uvahealth.org email, EPIC, PACS, and Vocera). We do NOT recommend installing MobileIron/Ivanti on your Apple MacOS laptop.

Caveats

Using an MobileIron/Ivanti does adjust some security settings and imposes constraints on your phone/tablet that you should be aware of:
  • MobileIron requires that you change your device passcode every 60 days.
  • MobileIron encrypts UVA Health data on your device .
  • MobileIron Device Manager allows UVA Health IT to purge your device of health system/medical center data (not your personal data, contacts, etc.) in the case of the loss or theft of a device.

More information (including some benefits) – here.

Many students wait until the pre-clerkship curriculum to install MobileIron/Ivanti on their phones when the increased volume of health system email justifies the inconvenience of 60 day passcode changes (1st caveat above). When you decide to install, detailed instructions are available for both iOS/iPadOS and Android
