Clerkships Readiness

Welcome to all things technical in the Clerkship Readiness course!

Health System Email (@uvahealth.org)

The absolute easiest way to read your Health System email will be to install Ivanti-Go (formerly known as MobileIron) on your phone and/or tablet:

Android Instructions for Ivanti-Go

On your laptop, if you have Microsoft Outlook installed on your computer and you are connected to the hscs-wireless network, you can use that to read email as well.

On your laptop (from home) you can use a web browser

Note: You can’t read or download attachments with the web browser, but assuming no PHI you can forward a particular message to another account and read/download there.

If the restriction on attachments on your laptop at home becomes problematic, you can install the Health System VPN. This is generally not necessary, but please talk to the MedEdWeb folks if you have any questions.

Other Considerations
  1. Make sure any devices you bring to the hospital connect to the hscs-wireless network (login with your username and health system password)
  2. You should have installed the software necessary to use EPIC on your personal computing devices already (from PSP). But just in case you hadn’t, you’ll want to do it now.
Vocera

Most of the clinical rotations in Charlottesville rely on Vocera for paging so we recommend that students install Vocera. The registrar should have already requested system privileges for you. If you somehow “fell through the cracks” you can submit a request yourself through AMP. Instructions are here – https://med.virginia.edu/med-ed-tech/support-for-students/applications/vocera-paging/

NBME Shelf Exams

You will take multiple shelf exams on your own laptop during your Clerkship year. To ensure you will be successful, you must certify your laptop for the exam. Click here for more details and to run the test on your laptop.

You can always contact us at mededweb@virginia.edu or stop by our offices in the Learning Studio, the Auditorium or in the lower level of the HSL if you have any questions.

Note: For help with clinical systems like Epic, HealthSystem Wifi, and HealthSystem Email, help is available 24/7 through Health Systems IT.
