Introduction to Clinical and Epidemiology Research

fern_hauckThis course will teach fellows the basics of developing a research study plan and introduce them to relevant concepts of research methods through development of this plan and those of their classmates. The text we will use is Designing Clinical Research, by Hulley, et al. By the end of the course, fellows will hand in their research plan following the guide provided to them at the beginning of the course. The sessions include: 1) developing a research study plan – introduction and developing a research question; 2) hypotheses, background and relevance; 3) study design; 4) sample selection and analytical plan; and 5) conclusions. We will review sources of funding and grant writing basics. We will also discuss common funding mechanisms and ways to help the new researcher get started.
