Life in Charlottesville

Information About UVA and Charlottesville

Charlottesville offers a unique balance of small town charm with the amenities of a large city. “C-ville” for short is located in Central Virginia, east of the Blue Ridge Mountains, just 70 miles west of Richmond, VA and 110 miles southwest of Washington DC. The city and surrounding areas are rich with cultural, historical and recreational activities.

Charlottesville has consistently been named one of the top happiest and best places to live in the US. The nearby Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Mountains offer innumerable activities for the outdoor enthusiast from white water rafting, camping, hiking, or mountain biking. The Charlottesville Downtown Mall is a unique destination for free live music every Friday in late spring and summer, farmer’s markets, and shopping. The food and restaurant scene is thriving with spectacular local restaurants offering all styles of cuisines and microbreweries. There is also no shortage of wineries with picturesque views of the mountains within a 30 mile radius of the city.
