Stephen Lockey, MD, MBA
Dr. Stephen Lockey is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia who specializes in adult spinal surgery. He received his medical degree and masters of business administration from Georgetown University, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and received the John N. Delahay orthopaedic surgery award, the Jesuit leadership and service award, and the award for outstanding student achievement. He remained at Georgetown University for his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery and served as academic chief in his final year. Dr. Lockey then completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Maryland/R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
In 2023, Dr. Lockey received the North American Spine Society traveling fellowship award for advanced training in minimally invasive surgery at the Rothman Institute, the Swedish Medical Center, and the Hospital for Special Surgery. He is thrilled to be at UVA and is committed to personalized patient care, education, and clinical research. Dr. Lockey has authored dozens of scientific articles and textbook chapters and is dedicated to advancing the field of spine surgery. His research interests include minimally invasive deformity correction, patient reported outcomes in spinal trauma, and neuromonitoring during lateral access spine surgery.
Beyond Orthopaedics
“Dr. Lockey and his wife, Deanna, grew up together in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They moved to Charlottesville with their three children, Rowan, Quint, and Lucy. Their family loves to spend time together outdoors and dining at Riverside Lunch.”
