Spine Surgery
UVA Spine Surgery - Neurosurgeons
Neurosurgeons are instrumental in the surgical treatment of spinal disorders, and in fact, over half of all surgeries performed by neurosurgeons are for spine disorders and injuries. Our spine surgeons provide intensive education to patients, and maintain close working relationships with referring physicians by keeping them apprised of their patients’ initial visits, hospital stays, and follow-up visits.
Our Team of Experts
Our spine specialists include neurosurgeons Michael Catalino, Juan Sardi, Justin Smith, Dennis Vollmer and Chun-Po Yen.
We continue to use innovative technologies, including for navigation and robotics and personalized spinal implants. We are invited to participate in many major national spine clinical trials, which gives patients access to treatment options not offered anywhere else in our region. Our clinical research has resulted in leading national studies that show positive outcomes of various types of spine care and surgical approaches.
