Neuromuscular Disorders

Clinical Services

The physicians in the Neuromuscular Disorders division provide specialized consultation and treatment for patients with diseases of the peripheral nervous system, neuromuscular junction, and muscle. Representative diseases include Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and other motor neuron diseases, peripheral neuropathy, myasthenia gravis and Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome, and myopathies. In particular, the division provides particular expertise in the care of patients with myasthenia gravis and ALS.

Patients are seen for consultations in the Neurological Outpatient Unit, located on the ground floor of the Primary Care Center.  The Neuromuscular Diseases clinic provides weekly consultations under the auspices of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, but patients are also seen by the various faculty members throughout the week outside of the regular clinic.  Patients of all ages are accepted for consultation.  In addition, the division staffs the Richard R. Dart Multidisciplinary ALS clinic at the Fontaine Research Park site several days per month.  Diagnostic services are provided in the EMG laboratory adjacent to the Neurological Outpatient Unit.
