Pediatric Specialty Divisions

Home to multiple sub-specialties, the UVA Department of Pediatrics strives to be recognized as a leading unit in the School of Medicine; to be a united team that embodies pride in the missions of the department and divisions, with an environment built on respect, teamwork, learning, and continuous improvement.

We are thrilled to share that for an incredible fifth year in a row, U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Children’s Hospitals” guide has ranked UVA Health Children’s the No. 1 children’s hospital in Virginia!

In addition to the top hospital ranking, nine of our specialties ranked among the top 50 nationally:

This No. 1 ranking is a testimony to the compassionate care and unwavering commitment you show our patients and families every day. You have made countless positive health outcomes possible through your safe, innovative, research-based practice. We thank each of you for your unique contributions to this effort and resulting rankings. We also wish to recognize UVA School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics — without their steadfast partnership, UVA Health Children’s could not achieve and maintain this top ranking.

And once again, we earned this recognition while managing extremely high patient volumes, receiving the highest possible designation from the Virginia Maternity Center Breastfeeding-Friendly Program, being redesignated as a Baby-Friendly Hospital by Baby-Friendly USA, and opening our Pediatric Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Health Care Clinic in partnership with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, among numerous other accomplishments.

A full multimedia marketing campaign will launch today to build awareness of and recognize this wonderful accolade. We’ll also celebrate as a team this Thursday, Oct. 9, with free coffee for the University Medical Center and cookies for our UVA Health Children’s team (see the Oct. 8 edition of UVA Health Update for details).

The opportunity to care for pediatric patients — and especially high complexity patients — is both an immense challenge and a priceless gift and privilege. There is no other team we would rather work alongside than you in this pursuit of health and hope for all Virginians and beyond for our youngest patients.
