Barrett H. Barnes, MD, Professor, Program Director

Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship Program at the University of Virginia Health System!

Our ACGME-accredited fellowship is dedicated to training the next generation of academic pediatric gastroenterologists. The first year emphasizes the development of strong clinical skills in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In the second and third years, fellows are encouraged to explore their academic passions through basic science, clinical and translational research, and quality improvement initiatives.

Our faculty brings a wide range of expertise and hold leadership roles across all levels of medical education. Fellows benefit from rich patient populations, offering extensive learning opportunities. Additionally, the UVA Medical Center is home to a comprehensive array of pediatric subspecialists, fostering a collaborative environment that supports both clinical excellence and academic growth.
