Find out More!

UVA in Charlottesville offers a Young Travelers Clinic which provides counseling, immunizations, and travel-related medications prior to international travel.  The pre-travel consultation is especially important for children with chronic disease, children visiting relatives, children who will live abroad for a prolonged period, and those participating in adventure travel. However, all children under 18 years of age who are travelling to another country with a higher risk of disease can benefit from pre-travel consultation

Regions of High Risk

Certain global regions have a higher risk for travel-related illness and should prompt a consultation with a travel specialist:

  • Africa
  • Asia
  • the Middle East
  • South America
  • Central America
  • the Caribbean
  • some areas of Europe

For some countries, the yellow fever vaccine is required for entry into the county.

What is the cost of the traveler's clinic?

The cost of the travel visit might be covered by your insurance. However, most insurance companies do not cover the cost of travel-related vaccines or medications. The costs that are not covered by your insurance will need to be self-paid. We will submit all claims to your insurance on your behalf. Please check with your insurance provider for your level of coverage
