Our Mission at the UVA Neonatology Fellowship Program

The UVA Neonatology Fellowship Program is dedicated to advancing the education and professional development of future neonatologists. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive and rigorous training experience that equips our fellows with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in a career in neonatology.

We emphasize a balanced approach to learning, combining hands-on clinical practice, innovative research opportunities, and a robust educational curriculum. By fostering a supportive and collaborative environment, we aim to inspire our trainees to become leaders in the field, committed to lifelong learning and the advancement of neonatology.

UVA Neonatology, Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, and Health System are committed to diversity, inclusion, and safety of all.

Format

  • 3-year program (potential fourth year for additional research or Master’s Degree)
  • The program is accredited by the ACGME in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine

Applicant Prerequisites and Procedures

  • Must currently be in an accredited pediatric program and in good standing, or have completed 3 years or more of general pediatric residency training
  • A Virginia license to practice medicine is not required as UVA grants fellows an institutional training permit
  • Applications are accepted only through the NRMP/ERAS Match Program. Requirements for completed application include:
    • Completed ERAS application
    • Letters of Recommendation from the Director of the applicant’s residency training program and two other faculty members
    • Personal Statement
    • Medical school transcript
    • USMLE or COMLEX transcript
    • ECFMG certificate (if applicable)
  • Following receipt of the completed application and letters of reference, on-site interviews may be arranged. Interviews generally begin in August and continue through October.
