Bio

Dr. Jakob Ottenhoff is the Assistant Program Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency and Course Director for the Internship Readiness Course at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He is actively involved in graduate medical education, with a focus on curriculum development, simulation-based training, and preparing trainees for the transition to residency. 

Dr. Ottenhoff received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan and earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at the Detroit Medical Center, followed by an Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship at the University of Virginia. 

He has played a key role in the design and implementation of an Emergency Medicine simulation curriculum, with particular interest in point-of-care ultrasound, high-fidelity simulation, and procedural education. Clinically, he practices emergency medicine with an emphasis on acute care and resident education in the emergency department. 

His academic interests include emergency ultrasound, trauma, and resuscitation, and he is committed to advancing innovative approaches to teaching within emergency medicine.
