Dr. Sarah Wendel is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and currently serves as Medical Director of the Emergency Department at UVA Health. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in Chinese Studies, from Syracuse University, followed by her medical degree from Georgetown University, and completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She also completed a fellowship in Administration, Operations, and Quality at the University of Colorado and earned an MBA in Health Administration.

Dr. Wendel has a strong interest in health administration and quality improvement and focuses her work on advancing operations, patient flow, and care delivery within the Emergency Department and across UVA Health.
